Modified - 09/27/2011 01:43pm My Teaching Philosophy
*Every child will feel safe, secure, and comfortable in a positive learning environment. Respect will be demonstrated and expected in our classroom. Each child will be given the opportunity to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. *I believe in maintaining a positive yet challenging classroom environment with consistent and clearly stated guidelines. Each child is them able to experience success and discover the fun of learning! *I believe that each child has special abilities, unique interests, and multiple learning styles. I believe that lessons must be differentiated to meet student’s abilities while achieving grade level standards. During class there will be periods of whole group instruction, one to one conferencing, and collaborative learning. Projects will be modified and goals set to help all students meet their learning goals. Discover their potential, build self-esteem and experience success. *Our goal in working together is to help each child learn more today than they did yesterday and learn more tomorrow than they did today. » read more...

Modified - 09/28/2011 11:50am Field Trips
Dear Parents, We will be going on our first field trip to Peterson’s Farm located in Petaluma on October 27. We will be leaving the school about 11:15 and returning around 2:30. The students will not only get a pumpkin but will also be learning about bees and feeding farm animals. If you would like more information about Peterson’s Farm please go to their website: http://www.petersonsfarm.com/ For this field trip we are going to need parent drivers. Both second grade classes are going totaling 39 kids and 2 teachers. If you would like to drive please let us know and we will send you to Jackie Bertero (School Secretary). She will give you all the information you need in order to be a driver. In addition, we will be eating lunch at the farm, so the kids need to bring a sack lunch. Please let us know if you need a sack lunch for that day. It is very important that we know a week before because our lunch lady needs to order them. If possible, please make a donation of $5 for this field trip. It would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please let us know. Thank you, Mrs. Gronlund and Miss. Rampone » read more...
Modified - 09/28/2011 11:51am Birthday Book Club
*To promote healthy habits in our classroom, students can become members of our “Room 18 Birthday Book Club”. On a student’s birthday, he/she can bring in a wrapped book to donate to our classroom library. We will celebrate the student’s birthday by having the child unwrap the book in front of the class and putting it on display for our class to enjoy for years to come! Often times, students like to bring a “treat” in for the class to celebrate their birthdays as well. This is fine, but there are wonderful alternatives to the cupcake, cookie, or ice cream treat that kids love! With childhood obesity rates being what they are in this country- if we can encourage kids to make healthy choices whenever possible, we are helping them to become happy and healthy adults! Please let me know if your child would like to join our birthday book club the day before. » read more...
