My name is Brittany Beseda Maier. I was born and raised in Sonoma County and come from a family full of educators. My youngest sister is Miss Beseda, who teaches P.E. here at Forestville. It is so AWESOME having the opportunity to work with her and to know she is teaching something very valuable to my first graders each week. My grandmother was a first grade teacher for 33 years and my grandfather was a counselor at El Molino High School for his entire career. I have many other family members that teach at both the elementary and high school levels in and out of the area. So, we can say that teaching runs in my blood. I received my education from Sonoma State University and graduated with my B.S. in Wine Business in 2005. I spent a few years working in the wine industry before returning to school for my teaching credential in 2009. I feel very fortunate to be part of the Forestville community and look forward to teaching your children! My teaching philosophy is to create a safe and nurturing environment that each and every child will thrive in! I believe that children are our future and that each one of them has something unique to offer to the world. It is my job to provide them with the tools to discover who they are and what they can become! I too will be learning from them just as much as they will be learning from me! This is a PARTNERSHIP amongst teachers, students, and parents, that will provide the best possible support system for the child. » read more...
Modified - 09/25/2011 04:41pm Thank you for "Adopting-our-Classroom!"
As a first year teacher at Forestville Elementary, I wanted to make sure that I could create a safe and nurturing environment for my students to thrive in. So, I enlisted in a program called "Adopt-a-Classroom." I was able to raise a lot of money and had supplies donated to our classroom! Without the support of my family, friends, and the community, Room 21 would not look the way it does today! We had everything donated from books, staplers, pencil sharpeners, paper, scissors, cubbies, pocket charts, posters, glue sticks, art & craft supplies, book shelves, all the way to our beautiful ABC rug! We are part of an AMAZING & SUPPORTIVE community, so THANK YOU from all of us in Room 21! » read more...

Modified - 09/25/2011 04:17pm Homework
First grade is an EXCITING year and the kids will be learning a lot! Monday through Thursday, your child will be bringing home a red homework folder. Homework will consist of a math worksheet that is a review of what was learned during that day's math lesson. They will also be bringing home small decodable books that they will need to read 5 times every night. This is very important, as the these repeated readings will only help your child become more fluent readers. Please then check off that it's been read on the Decodable Checklist inside the red folder. If you read these on a weekend, please wait until Monday to check them off. On Friday's, I will be sending home a blue folder. In this folder you will find any completed work that we did in class that week, important paper work from either the school or myself, a Weekly Newsletter, as well as your child's Weekly Behavior Report. Please look it over, sign it, and return it to me on Monday morning. » read more...
